Dr. Shaohan Zhao received his Ph.D. in 2001 in Toxicology and his MBA in 2002 from Iowa State University. He is a board-certified toxicologist as a fellow by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology. He has been serving as the lab director for multiple clinical labs since 2011. He is also a certified lab director for the state of New York, New Jersey, Florida, Nevada and Louisiana. In addition, he has set up multiple toxicology labs from scratch to test drugs in pain management industry. Dr. Zhao has lots of experience in lab management, technical guidance, LC/MS/MS, toxicological result interpretation and compliance with CLIA, COLA and CAP regulations. Prior to working at the pain management testing industry, he was employed for approximately four years as a senior toxicologist at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences (HCIFS) in Houston, TX. Prior to working at HCIFS, he was employed at pharmaceutical industry doing drug testing for 3 years and at environmental industry doing agrochemical testing for 3 years. He has served as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicology, the Southwestern Association of Toxicologists and Minnesota Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group.

Pejman Rahimian, Ph.D., MLS (ASCP)CM

Pejman is an ASCP-certified medical laboratory scientist (MLS) with over 12 years of diagnostic testing experience in the Molecular lab. Pejman is skilled in supervising, and operating CLIA-approved laboratories. He is currently a Senior Assay Development Scientist at Progenity responsible for the design, development, and validation of various diagnostic assays for detection of cancers, chronic inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders, and infectious diseases. Pejman is a consultant for various DFW laboratories in development and validation of assays in microbiology, molecular microbiology, pharmacogenetics and cancer since 2017. His research focus during his PhD and postdoctoral careers was on HIV-1 infection of the central nervous system, transcriptional reprogramming of HIV-infected CD4 T cells, and discovery of novel small molecule re-activators of HIV-1 latency. He had published in the Progress in Neurobiology Journal, the Journal of Neurovirology, and the Journal of Neuroinflammation. As an experienced technical supervisor of molecular clinical laboratory, Pejman has expertise in directing and overseeing daily operations, development of molecular diagnostic assays for pathogen identification, and validation of different testing platforms. Aside from his duties in the clinical lab, Pejman is dedicated to training the new generation of medical laboratory scientists at Tarleton State University’s Medical Laboratory Science program where he has been teaching medical genetics, immunology, microbiology, parasitology, and molecular microbiology courses since 2016.

Gary T. Bolanos, M.S. MLS(ASCP)CM

As Director of Laboratory Operations, Gary T. Bolanos’s is responsible for leading the development, validation, and optimization of clinical laboratory applications using the specificity, sensitivity and resolving power of hyphenated chromatographic and molecular techniques. Gary enjoys the challenges of integrating robotics, programming, and automation into clinical laboratory instrumentations and workflows. Gary excels in building effective cross-functional scientific and operational teams using his technical, regulatory, business and leadership background. As a technical laboratory consultant, Gary has the technical expertise and business experience building several start-up laboratories with in-depth knowledge of laboratory compliance and regulations with accreditation organizations like CAP, COLA, and CLIA as well as knowledge of CLSI and FDA guidelines. As a technical writer, Gary is proficient in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs specifically for Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs). Gary holds a certification as a medical laboratory scientist (MLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) with a degree in chemistry and clinical laborat
ory science.
